The English language is one of the worlds richest languages, with the Global Language Monitor in June 2009 registering English as comprising over one million words!

English Grammar, Vocabulary, Phonology and Writing System

The articles below provide information, explanations and advice about the various building blocks that come together to make up the English language: the grammar rules, phonology and pronunciation, vocabulary and orthography, or writing system, of the English language. 

Idioms, slang and common phrases

There are lists of common English idioms and their usages (containing a subsection on rhyming slang), a page of phrasal verbs and an article on confusing words

Using English for social situations when ‘out and about’ 

The Out and About section contains pages devoted to various social situations encountered when you are 'out and about', such as travelling, shopping, staying in a hotel, asking for directions, visiting the doctor, banking, gambling and much more. 

Using English for specific purposes

Also in the language guide we have a section called English language for specific purposes, which contains sub-sections of articles on English for letter writing, English for academic purposes and business English for using English at work.
